10 GOAL SETTING STRATEGIES FOR STRESS RELIEF

Sometimes we feel stressed because we’re not achieving things that are important to us, or our focus is headed in the wrong direction. Daily stress can result from a lifestyle that isn’t in line with our values, and an overall feeling of underlying tension when part of us feels we’re not leading the life we’d hoped for. The following goal setting journaling techniques can help you to get more in touch with your goals, and actually help you achieve them, and acquire the lifestyle you dream of.
Here's How:
  1. Ask yourself, if you had a magic wand, what would you like to see included in your future? Ignoring the ideas of how you’ll get there, vividly imagine your ideal life, and what would be included in it. Then take a few minutes to list, on paper or on your computer, the changes and goals that would be included in this picture. Be specific about what you want. It’s okay if you want something that you seemingly have no control over, such as a mate who is perfect for you; write it!
  2. You may want to keep a running journal of how you’re doing on your goals, as a way to pat yourself on the back for success, work through frustration of setbacks, and as a form of continued motivation. You can also make updates to your goals as they change with you. (Sometimes the pursuit of one goal will lead to growth that will lead to the realization that a different direction would be better for you.)
  3. Research on journaling has shown numerous benefits to journaling that includes processing feelings and brainstorming solutions. This can not only relieve stress, but also help you attain goals by providing an opportunity to work through problems, find solutions, and keep from getting ‘stuck’ in unhealthy patterns.
  4. You may also want to keep a gratitude journal, where you write about all the things for which you are grateful each day. Popularized by Oprah, this form of journaling can help you feel more gratitude in your life as you develop the habit of noticing all the good in your life. This can decrease stress that you feel, as well as help you realize all that you have available to you already.
  5. You may follow the lead of many businesses and have a 1-year, a 5-year and a 10-year plan for your life. (It doesn’t have to be a set-in-stone plan, but a list of wishes and goals.) Keeping in mind what you hope for in your future can help you feel less ‘stuck’ in the stressful parts of your present life, and help you see more options for change as they present themselves.
  6. Write down all the coincidences (or, what Henriette Anne Klauser, in Write It Down, Make It Happen!refers to as “Go! Incidences, referring to their momentum-building quality) that you encounter that bring you closer to your goals. Keeping track of them helps you become more aware of them when they happen, and more likely to use them to your advantage.
  7. Keep a ‘dream journal’ chronicling each night’s nocturnal adventures. You may begin to notice patterns, messages, and other important things your dreams can tell you that you’d otherwise forget. (Remember, you are generally the best interpreter of the meaning in your own dreams.)
  8. Maintain a ‘dream journal’ of a different sort: instead of recording the dreams you have when you’re sleeping, record the hopes you have (or once had) for your life that seem completely out of reach or borderline ridiculous. Have fun with it, and imagine where you’d be in life if you could be anywhere! This can help you get in touch with what you really want in life, and find uncover some dreams that you really can make come true.
  9. If you’re trying to find something specific in your life, writing about it has worked for many people. For example, if you’re looking for a compatible mate, writing down all the qualities you hope to find in a person, very specifically, has brought many people success. (Whether this practice aligns with the spiritual law ‘ask and it shall be given unto you’, or whether it causes you to be more likely to know it when you see it, it appears to work!)
  10. If you’re not the regular-writing type, even writing one list once can help you to attain your goals. The process helps you to become more aware of what more you could get our of life, notice that you don’t have to be ‘stuck’ in any circumstances indefinitely, and more often notice opportunities that come your way, either on a conscious or unconscious level.
Tips:
  1. Try to do this when you’re not exhausted, or so stressed you want to scream, but in a serious mood; you’ll get more relevant results this way.
What You Need
  • A pen and paper, or computer.
  • A few uninterrupted minutes.
  • A bit of introspection.

POSITIVE THINKING

Positive Thinking Can Help You Feel Better, Longer
There is power in positive thinking.
Have you noticed that some older adults continue to feel good and stay active well into their senior years, while others appear to age rapidly and experience increased health problems? Positive thinking may play a significant role
According to an APA news release, researchers found a link between positive emotions and the onset of frailty in 1,558 initially non-frail older Mexican Americans living in five southwestern states. This was the first study to examine frailty and the protective role of positive thinking in the largest minority population in the United States.
How Was the Study Conducted?
Study authors Glenn Ostir, Ph.D., Kenneth Ottenbacher, Ph.D., and Kyriakos Markides, Ph.D., from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, followed older adults for seven years to study their level of positive thinking in relation to their level of frailty.
Frailty was assessed by measuring:
  • Weight loss
  • Exhaustion
  • Walking speed
  • Grip strength
The study says that positive emotions (or positive thinking) were measured by asking how often in the past week participants had the following thoughts:
  • “I felt that I was just as good as other people”
  • “I felt hopeful about the future”
  • “I was happy”
  • “I enjoyed life”
There’s a Link Between Positive Thinking and Frailty
The report said that the incidence of frailty in the older adult participants increased overall nearly eight percent during the seven-year follow-up period, but people who scored high on positive affect or positive thinking were significantly less likely to become frail.
While researchers in the study couldn't explain why positive thinking or positive emotions reduced the incidence of frailty, they speculated that positive thinking may directly affect health via chemical and neural responses that help maintain an overall health balance.
Another possibility, according to the researchers, is that positive thinking can have a beneficial effect on people’s health by increasing a person’s intellectual, physical, psychological and social resources.
You Have a Choice About How You Think
I read somewhere that people can only hold one thought at a time. If that’s true, then you have a choice:
  • Focusing on a thought that makes you feel bad
  • Focusing on a thought that makes you feel good
Try to focus your energy on positive thinking rather than negative thinking, and look for reasons to feel happy and hopeful every day. If you put your energy toward positive thinking and ways to make your life more enjoyable, you may discover that positive thinking really doeshelp you feel better.

SECRETS OF SUCCESS

Want to know the secrets of success? Here they are.
How many of these 10 secrets of success do you practice?
  1. How you think is everything. Remember to “think positive” at every opportunity. Visualize success, not failure. Avoid negative environments and people.
  2. Decide on your dreams and goals. Be specific about your goals. For example, say “I am taking a cooking class next month,” rather than “I would like to take a cooking class sometime.” Create a plan to reach your goals, and stick to it.
  3. Take action. Goals alone have no meaning; you need to take action to make them real. Don’t let fear hold you back. "Just do it."
  4. Never stop learning. Take classes, go back to school, read books, join a discussion group. If you are interested in a subject, make time to learn about it. Keep acquiring new skills.
  5. Be persistent and work hard. You’ve probably heard the expression, “success is a marathon, not a sprint.” Keep your eye on the goal, and keep working toward it. Don’t give up.
  6. Learn to analyze details. Get all the facts, and ask for input. This will help you make wiser decisions. Acknowledge your mistakes, but don’t beat yourself up. Learn from your mistakes.
  7. Focus your time and money. When you believe in something, put your attention and energy there. Don’t let people or things distract you.
  8. Don’t be afraid to innovate; be different. Be true to yourself, and have your own ideas. Following the crowd is a path to mediocrity.
  9. Communicate with people effectively. Remember that no person is an island. Communicate your thoughts and desires honestly, and encourage others to communicate honestly with you. Practice understanding and motivating other people.
  10. Be honest and dependable; take responsibility for what you do. Never cheat or lie. When you make a promise, keep it. When you screw up, admit it.
Without honesty, dependability and responsibility, the other nine secrets of success don’t add up to much.

Berzikir tenang jiwa

Sabda Rasulullah s.a.w:"Apabila kamu melintasi taman syurga hendaklah kamu berhenti singgah" Para sahabat bertanya:"Apakah itu taman syurga?"Jawab baginda:"Majlis Zikir."
Riwayat at-Tirmidzi
Zikrullah bermaksud mengingati Allah.

(Surah Al-Ahzab 33: Ayat 41)
